Multi Super-Speciality Hospital | Tertiary Care | Advanced Surgical, Cardiac & Critical Care

Located in Surat, Gujarat, Diamond Hospital is a major multi super-speciality healthcare project developed for SDA Arogya Trust. The overall development comprises approximately 54,600sq.m., including a 50,600sq.m. hospital building and a separate 4,000 sq.m. nursing building. Planned as a comprehensive tertiary-care teaching hospital, the development brings together extensive outpatient services, emergency care, diagnostics, dialysis, surgery, cardiac sciences, critical care, women and child health, rehabilitation, research and inpatient services within a single integrated campus.

The hospital is designed in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines for an annual intake of 150 medical students. It is planned to function as a teaching hospital, with provisions to support academic, clinical training and research activities. A medical college is envisioned for future development, enabling the campus to evolve into an integrated medical education and healthcare institution.

The project is envisioned as a comprehensive healthcare institution capable of serving a broad section of society through multiple medical and surgical specialties. AMRD’s planning approach focuses on creating clear departmental zoning, efficient patient and staff movement, strong clinical adjacencies and segregation of public, inpatient, surgical and critical-care functions. A key architectural element is the central courtyard, which helps introduce natural light and openness into the large hospital floor plate while improving orientation within the building.

The hospital is currently ongoing with a planned capacity of 595 beds, designed to support a high-volume tertiary-care ecosystem once fully operational. Its academic infrastructure, including classrooms, a library, a multipurpose hall, clinical research facilities and staff accommodation, supports its intended role as a teaching hospital and provides a foundation for the future integration of a medical college.

The ground floor is organised around a double-height entrance lobby and accommodates administration and accounts, pharmacy, pathology, Emergency, Radiology and 17 OPDs arranged in three clusters with associated procedure rooms. This creates a high-capacity outpatient and diagnostic zone directly accessible from the main entrance.

The first floor combines outpatient, renal, rehabilitation and ophthalmology services. It includes a 40-bed dialysis unit, 16 OPDs arranged in 3 clusters, Physiotherapy Department with gym, yoga room and a 10-bed treatment area, and a dedicated Ophthalmology Department. The ophthalmology surgical facility comprises 4 OTs - 2 septic OTs, one LASIK OT and one Ophthalmology OT - supported by recovery facilities.

The second floor is dedicated primarily to Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with a 4-bed labour room, 2 major OTs, 1 minor OT, pre- and post-operative recovery, along with gynaecology wards, sharing rooms and private rooms.

The third floor forms the paediatric and neonatal inpatient zone, incorporating NICU facilities, a 10-bed PICU, paediatric ward, feeding and formula preparation areas, along with sharing and private rooms.

The fourth floor is the hospital’s principal surgical and critical-care hub. It accommodates an 8-OT surgical complex, a 10-bed recovery unit, CSSD, MICU, SICU and relatives’ accommodation.

The fifth floor is primarily dedicated to surgical wards together with sharing and private patient rooms.

The sixth floor forms the advanced cardiac-care zone and includes 2 cardiac OTs, Cath Lab, pre- and post-operative recovery, CT-ICU, pre- and post-Cath areas, MICU, and inpatient sharing and private rooms. Across the hospital, the planning therefore provides at least 17 operation theatres distributed between Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, the main surgical complex and Cardiac Surgery.

The seventh floor accommodates medical wards with sharing and private rooms.

The eighth floor houses the main pathology laboratory, clinical research facilities and staff accommodation, while the ninth floor incorporates administration, library, classrooms and a multipurpose hall, supporting the hospital’s academic, training and research functions and providing infrastructure for the future medical college.

The hospital supports an extensive clinical programme including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Neonatology, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, Oncology, Medical and Surgical Oncology, Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, Pulmonology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Endocrinology, Haematology and Dental Services, among others. Laboratory services include Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Toxicology and Serology.

Diamond Hospital represents a large-scale, vertically integrated healthcare and medical education development in which advanced clinical care, surgery, critical care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, education and research are brought together within a coordinated planning framework. Designed according to NMC requirements for an annual intake of 150 students, the project is planned to function as a teaching hospital and is structured to accommodate the future development of a medical college. Its extensive departmental programme, central courtyard planning and integration with a dedicated nursing building establish it as a significant tertiary healthcare and academic institution for Surat.
